Car Driving Lessons to Resume from 4 July 2020

As we all know the driving industry plays a key and silent role in the development of the country by producing safe and defensive drivers. Driving tests and driving lessons have been suspended for more than three months across the UK due to uncertain coronavirus. Neither driving schools nor learners were sure when they can restart lessons.

Finally, there is good news for the driving industry in England that DVSA has announced that driving schools, trainers, and learners can restart and book their driving lessons from 4th July 2020 in England. Learners will also be allowed to practice with someone they know or live.

The decision applies to car theory tests and all driver training. Candidates will need to follow social distancing measures when they go for their theory tests to stop the further spread of COVID-19.

Car practical tests will resume from 22nd July 2020, so the learners can book and practice refresher driving lessons before their practical test.

Driving Tests Date

Car practical driving tests that were booked originally or have been rescheduled will not go ahead. This also includes the tests booked on or after 22 July. DVSA will send emails to all the candidates to ask to choose a new test time and date.

The reason behind this is to allow learners drivers to practice and book tests at their convenient date and time. DVSA will give priority to these candidates for the available test appointments.

Driving Lessons in Wales and Scotland

Driving lessons are still not going ahead in Wales and Scotland apart from key workers. DVSA will soon publish more information and guidelines on how to resume driving tests and driving lessons safely.

Precautionary Measures for Driving Instructors

Driving instructors need to take all the necessary precautionary measures in line with government and DVSA COVID1-19 policy to prevent the virus. Instructors across the board should use masks and gloves while providing training. In addition, consider wiping steering wheel, gear stick, hand controls, door handles, etc between each lesson will be useful for everyone’s safety.
